For me, 2011 is all about fully implementing the strategic “life plan” that I kept fine tuning across 2010 with a less-is-more kind of mindset. I’ve boiled my so-called ambitions down to aligning everything I do within the three core buckets of Health, Family and Vocation.
The details of the “plan” simply look like this:
Personal Mission Statement:
Living the Fruit of the Spirit while tending to my health, family and vocation.
Health
Emotional, physical and spiritual wellness efforts, along with quality friendships, that make me fully available to live out my strengths.
Family
Prioritizing those who are closest to me, and being a good steward of my resources.
Vocation
Lifelong learning, networking and focusing on excellence in my communications, consulting, coaching and facilitation work--which enables me to live out my vocational brand of "Serving Critically-Thinking Professionals and Organizations."
Each of these three buckets includes detailed action steps that I stay on top of on a day-to-day basis. All of my Internet favorites, active folders on my laptop and even the books in my new Kindle are organized by the buckets. I am seeking as much synergy as possible across all spheres of life.
So 2011, I pray, is the year of doing what I claim is important to me. I am haunted by this famous quote from the psychologist William James:
Sow a thought, reap an action
Sow an action, reap a habit
Sow a habit, reap a character
Sow a character, reap a destiny
Based on my life’s journey so far, the destiny I long for deep in my heart is won—or lost—one present moment at a time. My challenge is: How do I stay emotionally, physically and spiritually motivated to act on a sense of urgency in every moment, in order to sow the kinds of thoughts, actions and habits that reap a character and destiny that makes a positive difference in the world?
