The mace-spraying freaks at Walmart
Go Google it, and read all about the “competitive shopping” madness that took place at a Southern California Walmart last night. An anomaly in terms of its extremism, I’m sure; but also a microcosm of the consumerist madness that has gotten us into this debt-plagued pickle in the first place.

You can take them with you to the mall, but it’s not quite the same. Chances are you will become exhausted, irritated and HUNGRY while you shop. You’ll end up wasting money on cheap but expensive food court slop. Don’t do it.
Emotional buying
Today is about irrational marketing at its most nefarious. Studies have evinced that people are more likely to whip out their credit cards for things they don’t really want or need on Black Friday, more than any other day of the year—except, perhaps, for Dec. 26. Taking today off from shopping is kind of like the “cooling off period” between a gun purchase and actually taking possession of the gun—later on, you’re glad you didn’t pull the trigger on impulse.
