About John
A resident of the Nashville, Tenn., area, I grew up in Central Florida and have built a vocation on the transforming power of words. Whether serving as a political reporter; magazine editor; United Methodist pastor; Morgan Stanley financial advisor; freelance writer; or leadership consultant, executive/life coach and speaker, written and spoken words have been a constant tool for helping people to grow into new insights and take action that improves them both personally and professionally.
My ongoing, holistic goal is to increasingly leverage (and think critically about) my gift of words across three core spheres:
Availability
Emotional, family, physical and spiritual wellness efforts, along with family commitments, that make me fully “available” to live out my strengths.
Learning
Through reading, relationships, exploring, traveling and so forth; a constant learning journey that creates fresh insights toward strengths application.
Serving
Relationship building, networking and focusing on friendships, workplace, external clients and community in a manner where I consistently offer the best of my strengths for others’ best purposes and needs.
The clients who resonate the most with me?
First, the critically-thinking professional seeking more congruence—intellectually, emotionally, relationally and spiritually—on the pathway to success. This person typically:
• Desires better, more sustainable results
• Enjoys reading and learning
• Appreciates the arts
• Wants to be a better, more interpersonal leader
• Wants to contribute more to the community and to their organizations
• Has a certain spiritual hunger but is not necessarily religious
• Is open to being stretched
• Is in a pivotal transition and needs guidance on next steps
Second, Organizations that want to empower such professionals,
characterized by:
• Producing quality written products across multiple formats
• Leadership striving to create a coaching culture
• Putting strong priority on retaining leaders and employees
• Welcoming innovation and creativity from all parts of the organization
• Healthy willingness to re-think and revise goals, strategies and tactics toward stronger outcomes
